Hardstanding to rent

The difference between a yard and a field is the ground. If you are standing anything heavy, the surface is the whole specification.

Plenty of cheap outdoor space is advertised as a yard when it is really a paddock with a gate. It works in August and becomes an expensive problem in November — ruts that swallow a trailer leg, a low-loader that cannot get to the back of the plot, standing water under a container, and a recovery bill to get your own machine off your own ground.

Hardstanding is the fix: a compacted, level, drained surface built to carry weight and take repeated traffic. It is the least glamorous thing about a storage yard and the one that decides whether the space is usable all twelve months.

Why the surface decides the cost

A surface that fails costs far more than the rent it saved. Recovering a bogged machine, re-laying ruts, lost days when a delivery cannot reach the plot, damage to trailer legs and jockey wheels, and gear that quietly corrodes because it has been sitting in a puddle all winter — none of that appears on the monthly invoice, and all of it is real money.

Surfaced, drained ground also protects the kit itself. Containers sitting level do not twist and stay square, so the doors keep closing properly, and vehicles are not standing in water up to the sills.

What our hardstanding takes

Our bays are compacted, level and drained, with surfaced access roads laid out for artic and low-loader movements right through to the bay rather than just to the gate.

  • Tracked and wheeled plant — excavators, dumpers, telehandlers
  • HGV units, rigids and full-length trailers on legs
  • 20ft and 40ft containers sitting level and square
  • Loaded skips, tipper bodies and steel stock
  • Palletised and bulk materials
  • Low-loader and beavertail delivery to the bay itself
